Tipping Points and Pivoting out of the CEO Role — With one of my greatest mentors, MBS

I’m so excited to share this week’s Pivot conversation with one of my longtime friends and most important mentors, Michael Bungay Stanier.

We talk about tipping points, preparing for TED Talks, and recently transitioning out of the CEO role from the company he founded nearly 20 years ago, Box of Crayons. We are also celebrating the launch of his latest brilliant book! The Advice Trap: Be Humble, Stay Curious, and Change the Way You Lead Forever.

FAVORITE FINDS 'ROUND THE WEB:

  • Featured: I had a blast chatting with Momentum Member Sarah Santacroce for her Gentle Business Revolution podcast. It's a show for "entrepreneurs who are tired of the old, hypey marketing and are looking for a better way to market their business." We talk about designing a launch you love as well as creating systems and content that live on long after the launch. Listen here »

  • ListeningWeCrashed - I mentioned this in an earlier #PivotList, but now that 5 of 6 episodes in the series are released, it really is a fascinating breakdown of the recent WeWork IPO debacle. On a related note, check out the podcast Spectacular Failures — I suggest starting with the episode on Toys R' Us going bust

  • Watching: The Boys on Amazon Prime is an engaging, dystopian take on all-too-human superheroes corrupted by capitalism. A bit gruesome at times (too much for my taste), the larger themes of mis-aligned interests and corroded values are thought-provoking and displayed in quite a creative context.

  • Tool: Amazon's Send to Kindle feature if you're not already using it! They now have web browser extensions in addition to the Kindle email address (which is what I use most regularly to forward PDFs for reading on-the-go).

That's it for now . . . THANK YOU for reading and listening, for your support, and for being part of this adventure with me. I am grateful for you every day, and I'm excited to see what 2020 brings!
